Meg Adelman
RN, BSN, MPH
As an RN, MPH and Co-Founder of Navitas Organics, Meg understands the true power that healthy lifestyle behaviors have on our health outcomes later in life.
Her passion for healthy living kindled at a young age - the result of a family history of diabetes coupled with witnessing the consequences of physical inactivity and dietary over-indulgence. At 15 she became a vegetarian, setting herself on a life-long path of healthier eating, discovering the value of plant-based diets and exploring the great taste of nutritious foods. After completing a BA in Psychology from UCSC, Meg answered a persistent pull to healthcare, and signed on as a medical assistant for an orthopedic surgeon. With the encouragement from her employer, she decided to go back to school to become an RN.
“The answer is crystal clear and staring us directly in the face. It’s high time to adopt a new perspective about health care where a holistic approach to wellness sits firmly at the core of everything we do.”
However, life had other plans for Meg. She soon met her husband Zach, eventually settled in Marin County, had a son and started a business importing nutritious organic superfoods from around the world. Navitas Organics recently celebrated twenty years in business and is considered an industry leader in the organic food industry celebrating merits of wellness, high quality nutrition, and environmental stewardship.
Meg ultimately did return to healthcare and earned her RN while simultaneously having her second child. After the fallout from the economic crash of 2008, she became a nurse in post-surgical and perioperative care unit. And it was there that Meg began to truly understand the complexity and strain that chronic disease places on healthcare systems and patient outcomes.
Eager for more innovation and prioritization around preventative health, Meg felt compelled to be part of upstream solutions to disease prevention and management. As an MPH with a focus on nutrition, she has been working in nutrition education and advocacy for the last seven years. Meg focuses her efforts on improving population health for future generation by promoting lifestyle-medicine and pushing for policy and legislative change to support people in making the healthy choice the default.
